iPhone 3GS Jailbroken Successfully on iOS 4.0.2 with Sn0wbreeze 2.0

iPhone 3GS (old bootrom only) has been jailbroken successfully on iOS 4.0.2 (custom firmware) using the upcoming Sn0wbreeze 2.0 for Windows. For those of you who don’t know, Sn0wbreeze 2.0 has been developed by the same iPhone developer / hacker which has previously released sn0wbreeze for 3.1.3, sn0wbreeze for 4.0, f0recast andBlackBreeze.
Jailbreak iPhone 3GS 4.0.2 with Sn0wbreeze 2.0
With this new version 2.0 of Sn0wbreeze, you will be able to jailbreak iOS 3.1.x, 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2 and 4.1 Betas by cooking custom firmware just like PwnageTool for Mac.Sn0wbreeze 2.0 will support: iPhone 3GS (old bootrom pwned on iOS 4.x, and new bootrom pwned on 3.1.2 or with 3.1.2 SHSH blobs), iPhone 3G, iPod touch 2G (non-MC model, and already jailbroken on iOS 4.x), and iPod touch 3G and 2G (MC model) pwned on 3.1.2 or with 3.1.2 SHSH blobs. While there is no ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) on the release yet, but going by his past work, there is no reason why it shouldn’t be soon.
Also it is important to note that there is no reason for you to update to iOS 4.0.2 now if you are already jailbroken on iOS 4.0.1 with JailbreakMe. iOS 4.0.2 only patches the PDF vulnerability in Safari browser which you can easily patch on your existing jailbroken iOS 4.0.1 setup using PDF Patch from Cydia. If you have accidently updated to iOS 4.0.2 on iPhone 3GS, 3G and / or iPod touch and have your SHSH blobs saved, you can follow our guide posted here to downgrade back to iOS 4.x.
This article is meant for informational purposes only. Of course we will let you know whenever this new version of Sn0wbreeze is available for download. Stay tuned for that!

Carmack Demos Rage on iPhone 4 at 60 fps

John Carmack, prolific game programmer and the technical director of id Software, demoed the upcoming game Rage on an iPhone 4 during his keynote speech at the QuakeCon 2010 conference this week. Carmack said that he had created the demo, which ran at an impressive 60 frames per second, to make people go "oh my god, look at this." The ultimately released iPhone version of the game will run at a more modest framerate, and a "show-off" edition will be on the App Store this year ahead of the planned 2011 release of the title on consoles and PCs.

Carmack had praise for the iPhone's promise as a gaming platform, saying it was able to "kill anything done on a previous generation console - like an Xbox or PS2 - with the hardware that's there." Despite lacking tactile feedback and other features of cutting edge consoles, Carmack said, the iPhone was an example of the future direction the gaming industry was going in. "It's not as powerful as current generation consoles, but it's not that far off," he said. The iPhone game will use id Software's proprietary megatexure technology, but Carmack indicated that the frame rate in the final game would be lower than the 60 fps shown in the demo, which he said took him about two weeks to create. The framerate of the actual game, according to Carmack, will be close to the framerate of Doom Classic, but better than Doom Resurrection.

Rage is id's first new major game series in the almost fifteen years since Quake came out. Carmack had said in an interview with Official PlayStation Magazineahead of QuakeCon that id Software was unlikely to create any new franchises for many years to come. "We do already have more IPs (intellectual properties) than we can exploit," he said. "I doubt we're going to do another IP. It's scary to say it, but maybe not in the next decade even, because we want to support Wolfenstein, Doom Quake - and hopefully we can add Rage onto that - and I don't want five teams here. Three is scary enough."

Sony Ericsson to Introduce PlayStation Phone Running Android 3.0 Gingerbread [Rumor]

One thing that Android platform seriously lacks in comparison to iPhone (iOS) is quality gaming. Even though it fully supports good graphics and game play, but the developersfor whatever reasons so far have not been able to deliver the quality of games thatApple’s iOS devices deliver. But now it seems like all that is going to change. Engadget has the latest scoop from one of their reliable sources who claims that Sony Ericsson is working on a gaming phone which will look a hell a lot like the PSP and that it will be powered by Android 3.0 Gingerbread, bringing PlayStation titles to the platform.
PlayStation Phone
The device shown above is a mockup, but it gives you an idea what the device might look like when it comes out. Engadget reports:
It seems that Sony Ericsson — a company that has yet to even introduce an Android 2.0 device — is at work on a project to redefine gaming on Google’s mobile platform. We now know (via a trusted source) that the company is actively and heavily developing a brand new gaming platform, ecosystem, and device (possibly alongside Google) which are already in the late stages of planning. And we’ve got the goods on it.
This flagship product of Sony Ericsson will feature: 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a large high resolution display (rumored to be around 3.7 inches to 4.1 inches), and instead ofQWERTY keyboard, it will have PSP like controls for gaming, something which is currently being dubbed as “long touch pad” for analog controls. The form factor will be on the lines of Xperia X10 and of course it will be powered by Android 3.0 Gingerbread. Games will be available for download via a dedicated market, which will initially be exclusive to this device only. But there is no reason why it wont be available to other phones that meets the hardware requirements of this so called “PlayStation phone” series. Graphics quality is said to be as good as the ones seen on PlayStation and the PSP – now that’s big if you ask me! It is slated for October 2010 release.

Unlock iOS 4.0.2 with Ultrasn0w [How to Guide]

While Apple has released iOS 4.0.2 for iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G, the important thing is that they haven’t updated the baseband. What this means is that 05.13.04 baseband which accompanies iOS 4.0.2 is still unlockable with ultrasn0w provided that you manage tojailbreak your iOS device. At the moment, only iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G (Non-MC model) can be jailbroken on this latest firmware using the latest version of Redsn0w. So technically, you can only unlock iPhone 3G on iOS 4.0.2.
Ultrasn0w 1.1-1
The steps for unlocking are as follows.
Step 1: First up, you will need to jailbreak your iPhone 3G on iOS 4.0.2 with Redsn0w. Full step by step guide is posted here.
Step 2: Since Redsn0w doesn’t hacktivate iPhone 3G, you will need to first activate it using original official supported carrier SIM, or the phonebook SIM card trick, guide for which can be found here.
Step 3: Once activated, you can now unlock your iPhone 3G to run it on any carrier you like by unlocking it using ultrasn0w from Cydia. Steps for installing ultrasn0w can be found here.

Jailbreak iOS 4.0.2 with Redsn0w [How to Guide]

Ok guys I just tested it on an old iPhone 3G lying around and can confirm that this works! Now that Apple has released iOS 4.0.2 to patch the PDF exploit, JailbreakMe which was previously used to jailbreak iOS 4.0.1 on iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G, iPod touch 3G / 2G and iPad isnow incompatible with iOS 4.0.2. But if you have iPhone 3G (which doesn’t rely on an unlock) or an iPod touch 2G (non-MC model) lying around, you can jailbreak it using the existing version of Redsn0w. Simply follow the step by step guide posted below to jailbreak the mentioned devices on iOS 4.0.2 using Redsn0w.
Step 1: Download iOS 4.0.2 for your version of iPhone and iPod touch. Download links are given below.
Step 2: Update to this latest firmware using the IPSW file you just downloaded via iTunes 9.2.1.
Step 3: Start Redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5 (download link given below) and point it to iOS 4 (Final Version), and not iOS 4.0.2 firmware file to proceed with the jailbreak.
Jailbreak iPhone OS 4
Step 4: Now select “Install Cydia” and click “Next”.
Jailbreak iPhone 4.0
Step 5: Now make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to the computer before you click “Next”.
Step 6: Connect your device in recovery mode by pressing the Power and buttons continuously.
Jailbreak iPhone 4.0 Beta
At this stage you will be presented with a screen where you will have to quickly hold “Power” button and then while holding the “Power” button, you will now have to hold “Home” button too. Now after few seconds release “Power” button but keep holding “Home” button until installation begins.
Step 7: Sit back and enjoy while redsn0w will do all the rest for you. Once done, your iPhone and/or iPod touch will restart automatically and you will find it jailbroken on the latest iOS 4.0.2 Beta firmware.
How to Unlock iOS 4.0.2 with Ultrasn0w Once you are done with the jailbreak, you can unlock your iPhone 3G on iOS 4.0.2 with ultrasn0w on 05.13.04 baseband, step by step guide for which is posted here.

Apple Releases iOS 4.0.2 for iPhone, iOS 3.2.2 for iPad to Patch JailbreakMe PDF Exploit

Apple has just released iOS 4.0.2 for all iPhones, iPod touches, and iOS 3.2.2 for iPad to patch the PDF exploit which was used by JailbreakMe to jailbreak all iOS devices on iOS 4.0.1. If you want to keep your jailbreak and unlock, you better not update to this latest firmware now or you will be out of luck for long. Incase you have decided not to update, make sure you use PDF Loading Warner app which will make your web browsing safe. Of course if you care about security of your iPhone, then you can go ahead and update to the latest firmware from iTunes.
To update to iOS 4.0.2 for iPhone, and iOS 3.2.2 for iPad, all you need to do is to connect your iPhone/iPod touch/iPad with your computer via USB and start iTunes. You should now see a message as shown below. Simply click on “Download and Install” button to get on to the new firmware.

iPhone and iPod touch Jailbreakers, Do Not Update to iOS 4.0.2 Until New Jailbreak Tool is Available

Apple has pushed out the new iOS 4.0.2 firmware for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, 3G and iPod touch 3G / 2G. This new firmware is basically a security update which patches the PDF exploit used by JailbreakMe to jailbreak all iOS devices. Now if you care about your security, you can go ahead and update now but doing so will make your iPhone 4, 3GS and iPod touch 3G / 2G unjailbreakable until a new jailbreak tool is available.
Incase you decided against updating to keep your jailbreak alive, make sure you install PDF Loading Warner app which will keep your browser safe from this vulnerability.

iOS 4.0.2 and iOS 3.2.2 Release Seems Imminent. Backup Your SHSH Blobs Now!

There are rumors flying left and right about Apple releasing the iOS 4.0.2 firmware for iPhones and iPod touches and iOS 3.2.2 for iPad in only a few hours from now. This update will patch the PDF exploit which is used by JailbreaMe to jailbreak all iOS devices. If you accidently update to iOS 4.0.2 / iOS 3.2.2, it will be impossible for you to jailbreak and unlock straight away until a new tool is available. The only way you can jailbreak again will be by downgrading back to iOS 4.0.1 or iOS 4 for which you will need your SHSH blobs.
A little birdie told me ios update due in a few hours (better to believe than ignore) so go ahead and save your SHSH before it’s too late!

Gyroblox 4: the Gyroscope App Which Steve Jobs Demonstrated on iPhone 4 at WWDC 10?

Remember the Gyroscope feature demo which Steve Jobs demonstrated on iPhone 4 atWWDC 2010? While I have tried different gyroscope based apps from the App Store, but what I was always looking for was this app which was shown off by Steve. Well guess what? there is now a app available in the App Store by the name of “Gyroblox 4” which looks and works a hell a lot like the demo app shown at WWDC 10.
gyroblox
Steve Jobs - Gyroscope
What you do is basically take out the pieces of blocks from the onscreen structure and the structure in turn utilizes the physics engine to react to the blocks being taken out. The built-in gyroscope makes it possible to turn around the blocks when you move in real. The point of the app is to show off the capabilities of the iPhone 4’s gyroscope, the OpenGL ES 1 engine, Retina Display and Physics.
Capture
For a price of $2.99 its kind of expensive but it’s the perfect way to see what your iPhone 4 is capable of doing. Gyroblox 4 can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store here. Of course, you will need to have an iPhone 4 running iOS 4 to run this app.

The Most Elegant and the Most Beautiful Looking News App has Just Arrived on the iPad

The most unique and the most beautiful app of OS X has just arrived on the iPad. The highlight feature of Times for iPad app is the user experience, which is familiar to the traditional newspapers you read. The app is fully customizable, you can customize the layouts according to your needs from different RSS sources around the web for main, featured, and sidebar section of your personalized paper. With built-in social networkintegration, you can share your favorite stories with your friends and family on Twitter and Facebook within seconds!
Times for iPad
Official description of the app, followed be feature list is as follows:
Times is the ultimate visual newsreader for your iPad. Turn your favorite RSS feeds into a beautiful and elegant virtual newspaper, making scanning through the news quicker and easier than ever before. The popular Macapp is now partnered with the perfect platform on the iPad.
FEATURES
• Stunning user interface that turns your feeds into a newspaper
• Browse rich images, titles, and descriptions inline on one page
• Fully customizable page layouts, styles and rules
• Shelf lets you pick out interesting articles to save and read later
• Integrated web view for viewing full articles and links
• Built-in support for sharing articles on Facebook and Twitter
Times for iPad (1)
The only thing which is probably not going in the favor of the app in my opinion is hefty $7.99 price tag, which for most will be “too much” to spend on a news app. If news is your thing, this app maybe worth getting, but if you are a casual news reader, then other inexpensive alternatives such as Reeder, or Flipboard for iPad will serve you better.
